Summary

Visceraville is a short quest based game that takes place in a town inside the belly of a beast. Our main character was devoured by this beast in a quest to kill it. They found themselves in a strange town within the beast. They must explore the town and talk to the inhabitants to learn more about this strange place. But, there is trouble amongst the town. One of the inhabitant's teenage daughter is planning to kill the beast in order to get out, while the rest of the inhabitants have grown attached to the beast that provides their home. The player must come up with a solution to the conflict by doing quests.

I was inspired to make this game because I always wondered how a town built inside a belly of a big monster would look like. I have always fascinated by fleshy interiors and organic environments within video games. I wanted to make a town within such an environment. This game explores how such a town came to be, how the inhabitants survive this type of environment, and how they would feel about the beast they live in.

This game uses Pixel Crusher Dialogue System to set up conversations. There are different kinds of conversations, to a standard back and forth conversations to branching ones. I also created a cutscene using the Dialogue System with animations, transitions, and different camera angles. I used the Quest Machine to set up the quests. Quests are activated by talking to the NPCs. Some quests you are required to talk to another NPC, others you need to collect items. There are quests that require to collect a certain amount of an item. Some quests have multiple sub quests(entries) that need to be completed in order to complete the main quest. I created a custom journal for the quests and changed the default text boxes during interactions. This game demonstrates the ability to tell a story through completing quests and how to have multiple quests that build up to a larger, overreaching goal. For an example, in one section, we need to collect a lavender, but it is blocked off by a wood plank. In order to get an axe to break the wood, we need to do a quest for another character and collect enough bones so he can make an axe for us.
